Dusty Britches Event Rules & Regulations

General

In order to maintain the efficiency we are known for, all Dusty Britches events will be pre-entry only unless otherwise noted on showbill. Entry will close at noon the day prior to the show. No late entries will be accepted.

Conduct

As the producer, we reserve the right to refuse participation to, or immediately remove from the event and facility, any individual—competitor, parent, trainer, or spectator—who disrespects, violates, or fails to comply with the rules of the facility or event, engages in unsafe, abusive, or unsportsmanlike conduct, or fails to follow producer or facility staff instructions. No warnings are required.

Misconduct or abusive comments spoken to any contestant, spectator, staff member or volunteer may result in immediate contestant disqualification and no refund of any fees.

Parents or legal guardians are responsible for the conduct of minor participants and accompanying parties. Any misconduct by a minor or their accompanying parties may result in removal from the event.

Equine Welfare

The welfare of the horse and safety of all participants is top priority.  There will be zero tolerance for mistreatment of horses including, but not limited to, excessive jerking, spurring, whipping, slapping, abuse with any device, or any other act intended to cause trauma or injury to horse. We reserve the absolute right to refuse participation to any horse deemed visibly lame, sore, or unsound at any time during the event, including but not limited to the warm-up arena, alleyway, and competition runs. This determination is made solely at the discretion of the race producers and is final.

Helmets

For insurance purposes, all riders under the age of 18 are required to wear protective headgear. Riders seen in the warm-up pen or arena without a helmet will be given a warning for first offense. Further offenses will result in loss of points and possible expulsion from event.

Age Divisions

Ages will be determined as of January 1 for jackpots and summer gymkhana series (Farmer's Tan) and as of first show of season for winter gymkhana series (Ugly Sweater) unless otherwise noted on showbill.

PLEASE BE SURE TO FILL OUT YOUR RIDER PROFILE ON SADDLEBOOK WITH YOUR BIRTH DATE TO ENSURE YOU REGISTER FOR THE CORRECT DIVISION

Youth (Age 13 and under)

Teen (Age 14-17)

Adult (Age 18 - 39)

Masters (Age 40 and above)

*Sanctioned jackpots may have slight variation in age divisions due to specific association rules. These will be noted on showbill as necessary.

Race Rules

Gymkhana events are considered "fun shows" and therefore are more relaxed and open to allow riders and horses opportunity to learn. Within reason and at producers' discretion, riders will be allowed to re-try patterns (no points/time will be awarded). This will differ from jackpots, where riders will be asked to exit the arena if pattern is broken.

Riders may share a horse as long as both riders are in different age divisions.

Riders may have multiple horses - points will follow the horse/rider pair and will not be transferrable. Points will be awarded from 1st place to 10th place in class.

Classes will be run as a combined draw with all age divisions, to allow for those sharing a horse or running multiple horses time to make any horse/tack switches. Riders will still be scored in their individual age divisions.

Riders will be expected to be prepared when their draw is called. If you are not at the arena and ready to run when your draw is up, you may be skipped and receive a no time.

Any knocked obstacle will result in a 5 second penalty for gymkhana events, or a no time for jackpot events. Off pattern will result in a no time in both cases.

Unless otherwise noted on showbill, no specific dress code will be required. Attire must be neat and clean, and all articles of clothing must be properly worn. Horses may be ridden in either English or Western tack as preferred. Producers retain right to refuse any inappropriate clothing or equipment deemed unsafe.

Different arenas may require varying gate setups. Regardless of whether there is an alley, an open gate, or a closed gate - riders are required to have control of their horse when entering and exiting the arena.

In event of a timer malfunction, a re-ride will be offered.

Patterns will typically be posted on our Facebook page prior to every event, except for season-end shows which are mystery classes. All patterns for season finale shows will be pulled from patterns used in prior shows that season. While actual measurements of patterns may need to be adjusted depending on arena setup, measurements will remain consistent for all runners in a class.

Payment & Payouts

All applicable show fees must be paid in full before your first run. Payment may be made online via Saddlebook or in cash at the show. Online payments may incur additional credit card fees. No checks will be accepted.

Payouts for all shows will be sent via digital payment (Venmo, Paypal, or Cashapp) the week following the show closing. This is to ensure that all online payments clear and results can be finalized. Please reach out to producers with your payment info to ensure prompt payment. Payments not claimed within 60 days of show may be forfeit.
